SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA
Description
To keep in mind: Due to the area’s characteristics such as altitude, atmospheric pressure and reduction of oxygen, we recommend people with respiratory, cardiac or pressure diseases, should take special care. Day 1. Arrival at San Pedro de Atacama. Transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, departure from the hotel to visit De La Sal Mountain Range and De La Muerte Valley. During the trip, we arrive at Las Tres Marias, an interesting geological formation, located close to an old salt mine and to De La Luna Valley (Moon Valley), named after its similarity with the lunar landscape. Enjoy a unique sunset. Day 2. B Free day to take an optional excursion. We suggest visiting Altiplanic Lagoons, one of the 7 areas which embrace Los Flamencos National Reserve (“flamencos” means flamingoes), with Chaxa Lagoon in Atacama Salt Flat. Volcanoes and mountainous relief, standing out Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons, characterize the landscape. On the way back, we visit Toconao. Maximum altitude: 4220 masl (13845 ft.) Day 3. B Early in the morning we depart towards El Tatio Geyser Field, a geothermal field located in the Andes Mountain Range, which is the highest geyser field in the world (4200 MASL- 13779 ft.). It is visited during the first hours of the day because at that time, it registers an impressive activity of vapor fumaroles produced by the high temperatures of its watery craters. It is surrounded by hills that reach 5900 MASL (10356 ft.). Maximum altitude: 4320 masl (14173 ft.) Day 4. B At due time, departure transfer. Notes: Transfer upon arrival and departure with a guide from the bus terminal or from and to Calama Airport without a guide.
